THE TOWN AT THE END OF THE STREET

Redcliffe State High School Year 11 CAD Students

A classic murder-mystery except the murder hasn’t happened yet…

Detective Winsome Stockinghurst and his sidekick Bernice ‘The Idiot’ Flanagan race to find the would-be murderer. The problem is, everyone in the town has a motive. “Who is the murderer?”

DEVELOPMENT

Over just 10 after-school sessions we created and rehearsed with the year 11s, a 50min performance from scratch!

Working together Clint and Ben up-skilled the students in Clown, Commedia and general comic acting. The next focus was on characters and creating little ‘families’. With the evolution of the plot, each character had a scene in which their motive to murder was showcased. The dramatic question for the whole show was, “Who is the murderer?” (And yes it’s always the one you least suspect!) Everyone wanted the audience to be truly immersed in the world of the play. This was achieved by seating the audience in a ‘reverse round’ style – the chairs in the centre of an open space, and the actors performed around, most never leaving the stage.
